February is one of the best times to visit the Lowcountry. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and a packed calendar of events make it ideal for a coastal escape. Guests staying at Water’s Edge Inn on Folly Beach are perfectly positioned to enjoy two of the Lowcountry’s most anticipated February events, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) in Charleston and Folly Beach’s beloved Sea & Sand Festival. If you’re planning a long weekend or an extended winter getaway, February offers the perfect blend of culture, creativity, and coastal relaxation.

SEWE: Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston
February 13–15, 2026

The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, commonly known as SEWE, is Charleston’s signature winter event and the nation’s premier celebration of wildlife art and the great outdoors. Held throughout historic downtown Charleston, SEWE attracts visitors from across the country to experience world-class art, handcrafted goods, live demonstrations, and authentic Lowcountry flavor.

Staying at Water’s Edge Inn on Folly Beach allows visitors to enjoy SEWE by day and return to the peaceful atmosphere of the island by night. Just a short drive from downtown, Folly Beach offers a quieter, more relaxed alternative to city accommodations—perfect for unwinding after a full day of exploring Charleston.

Sea & Sand Festival: Folly Beach’s Longest-Running Tradition
February 21–22, 2026

One week after SEWE, the energy shifts from Charleston to Folly Beach for the 34th Annual Sea & Sand Festival, Folly Beach’s longest-running festival. This two-day event spans from Folly River Park to the beachfront, bringing together local art, live music, family-friendly entertainment, and Folly’s laid-back island charm.
Saturday’s Salty Saturday transforms Center Street into a vibrant festival hub from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the street closed to traffic and filled with local Folly Beach restaurants, bars, and more than 80 art, craft, and fashion vendors. Live local bands perform throughout the day, creating a festive backdrop for shopping, strolling, and soaking in the island atmosphere.

A fan-favorite highlight is the Surfboard Painting Contest, where artists compete to transform surfboards into original works of art. Once completed, the painted boards are displayed throughout Folly Beach as a public art installation, adding a creative touch to the island long after the festival ends. On Sunday, the celebration moves to the shoreline for the Sand Sculpting Competition, beginning at 10 a.m. on the beachfront near The Tides. Teams and individuals compete in a creative display of beachside artistry, offering a classic Folly Beach experience for visitors of all ages. Sunday’s event is free to attend.
